We’re off on our first ever family caravan adventure—a few nights away, all five of us packed into a cosy space on wheels.

There’s something so freeing about caravan life: less stuff, more fresh air, no fixed plans, and the promise of toasted marshmallows and card games at sunset.
But let’s be real: small space + big energy = emotional wobbles sometimes (kids and adults). That’s why I brought along a few of my trusty essential oils to help ground us, soothe tension, and spark joy.
The Blend: Cedarwood + Wild Orange + Lavender
Simple and powerful, this trio sets the tone for relaxed connection and calm transitions (especially around bedtime!).
Cedarwood – The Oil of Community
Cedarwood is ideal for close quarters—it helps settle the nervous system, ease irritability, and encourage cooperation when patience is running low.
It’s like a warm grounding hug, helping everyone feel safe, supported, and connected—no matter how many rounds of Uno have ended in tears
Wild Orange – The Oil of Play and Abundance
This bright, citrusy oil brings joyful energy into the space. Perfect for those sugar-fuelled surges of silliness or late-afternoon tired wobbles.
It invites spontaneity, laughter, and presence—reminding us to soak in the little moments that make family trips so special.
Lavender – The Oil of Calm and Communication
A go-to oil for winding down. Whether it’s bedtime, homesick feelings, or post-beach overstimulation, Lavender helps soften the edges and ease the body into rest.
It’s also lovely to diffuse during quiet moments—colouring, reading, or when the baby is napping.
How I’m Using the Oils in the Caravan:
1. In the Diffuser:
2 drops of each in our little caravan diffuser (bliss after a day of exploring!)
2. Pillow Spray:
- 6 drops Lavender
- 4 drops Cedarwood
- 4 drops Wild Orange
- 50ml distilled water + splash of witch hazel in a spray bottle
(Perfect for freshening up sleeping areas or a calming spritz during car travel.)
3. Roller Blend:
Pre-blended 10ml roller with this trio + fractionated coconut oil
(Rolled onto wrists and behind the ears before sleep or during a meltdown moment.)
Why It Matters
Travelling with little ones is full of magic and giggles —but it’s also unpredictable, emotional, and sometimes loud.
These oils help create a calm anchor in the whirlwind. They support emotional regulation, encourage joyful presence, and make our caravan feel like a safe little cocoon—wherever we park it.
And the smell? Earthy, citrusy, soft—like the feeling of a deep breath after a long day outside.
