Cranial Reflexology: A Gentle Reset for Your Nervous System

Cranial Reflexology is one of the most calming and effective treatments I offer for stress relief. It works on specific reflex points in the head to help release stress, tension, and overwhelm. The techniques I use – like the Temporal Ear Pull and Occipital Release – are gentle but powerful. This treatment helps to regulate the nervous system, ease headaches, support better sleep, and bring the whole body back into balance.

This particular method was developed by Ziggie Bergman, founder of the Bergman Method and a leading expert in facial and cranial reflexology. I trained directly with Ziggie at the London School of Reflexology, and I love how her approach blends ancient healing techniques with modern understanding of the nervous system.

Why people love it

Right now, it’s the most popular treatment in my clinic – and it’s easy to see why. Clients often come in feeling frazzled or drained, and leave feeling noticeably lighter and calmer. It’s especially supportive for:

✔ Stress and anxiety
✔ Headaches, migraines, jaw tension
✔ Sleep issues and mental fog
✔ Nervous system support for babies and children

There’s even a newborn sequence! In fact sessions can be adapted for any age, which makes it a lovely option for families too.

A recent client story

When Sarah* came to me first she was worn out. She wasn’t sleeping well, had regular headaches, and described a tight pain across her eyes that made it hard to concentrate, especially after a long day looking at a screen at work. She had tried all the usual things—hydration, screen breaks, switching pillows—but nothing had really helped.

She was open to giving Cranial Reflexology a go, so we started weekly sessions.

After the second one, she mentioned she was falling asleep quicker. By week three, her headaches were less frequent and not as intense. And by week four, she told me:

“I’m sleeping so much better, I haven’t had a headache in ages, and that pain across my eyes is gone.”

That’s the power of working gently with the nervous system. Sometimes it just needs the right kind of support to start letting go of what it’s holding.

A little something extra

My favourite part of treatment, even though I was sceptical of it at first, involves smooth stones. We had the option to buy stones or collect our own – of course I went for the sentimental factor and proudly use stones that they were collected from Ballyloughane Beach by my boys. I use them to tap into spinal reflex points and help deepen relaxation.

Just to clarify – Cranial Reflexology is not the same as Craniosacral Therapy.
While both support the nervous system, they are completely different therapies. Cranial Reflexology uses specific reflex points on the head, while craniosacral therapy works with the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the cranial rhythm. If you’re unsure which one you need, feel free to reach out – I’m always happy to chat through it and can recommend a Craniosacral Therapist if that would support you more.
