Orthotics & Gait Analysis

Expert orthotic assessment and footwear solutions from a qualified clinical orthotist without the waiting list.

Gráinne Staunton is a qualified Prosthetist and Orthotist with a BSc in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the University of Salford and seven years of clinical experience working with patients across Galway, Mayo, Cork and Dublin. She now offers private orthotic assessments from her clinic in Claregalway, Co. Galway.

If you have been waiting on an HSE referral, have been told to manage your condition conservatively, or simply want expert eyes on a problem that has been affecting your quality of life then this service is for you.

What is an orthotic assessment?

An orthotic assessment looks at the way you stand, walk and move and it identifies where something in that pattern may be causing pain, discomfort or inefficiency elsewhere in the body. Foot mechanics affect everything above them: ankles, knees, hips and lower back. Getting to the root cause matters.

At your assessment Gráinne will take a full history of your symptoms and relevant medical background, carry out a gait analysis observing how you walk and move, use the latest 3D foot scanning technology to capture the precise shape and mechanics of your feet, and recommend the most appropriate solution, whether that is an off-the-shelf insole, a semi-custom or fully custom orthotic, or specialist footwear.

Who this service can help

This service may be right for you if you are experiencing heel, arch or forefoot pain, knee, hip or lower back discomfort linked to foot mechanics, flat feet or high arches, issues following foot or ankle surgery or injury, diabetic foot complications requiring specialist footwear, arthritis affecting your feet or ankles, or a child with a gait pattern you are concerned about.

What Gráinne can provide

Following assessment, Gráinne can provide semi-custom and fully custom orthotics made to your individual foot scan, off-the-shelf insoles selected and fitted for your specific needs, carbon fibre insoles for post-surgical gait rehabilitation, and specialist extra-width and extra-depth footwear for diabetic and arthritic feet. All solutions are sourced from trusted clinical suppliers.

Cutting through the waiting list

One of the most common reasons people come to Gráinne privately is time. HSE orthotic waiting lists can stretch to months or years. A private assessment means you are seen quickly, assessed thoroughly, and moving toward a solution – often within days.

For diabetic patients who already have HSE-funded footwear and need a second pair, or who want to source a replacement more quickly, Gráinne can work directly with specialist suppliers to match existing prescriptions and get you what you need without the wait.

After ankle surgery or serious injury

Complex cases are welcome. Gráinne has clinical experience supporting patients through rehabilitation following ankle arthrodesis and other significant foot and ankle interventions, helping restore efficient gait patterns and reduce compensatory strain on the rest of the body. If you have been discharged from hospital care but are still struggling with how you walk, an orthotic assessment may be exactly what you need.

The Footwear & Orthotic Clinic — Shannon

In partnership with Heal Podiatry, Gráinne also runs a monthly Footwear and Orthotic Clinic at Heal Podiatry in Ballycasey, Shannon, Co. Clare. This clinic combines the expertise of a qualified podiatrist and a clinical orthotist in a single appointment – ideal for complex cases or anyone in the Clare and Limerick area.
